UK – Quixant has strenghtened its relationship with Blueprint, the UK-based manufacturer – with its latest collaboration. Blueprint, part of the Gauselmann Group, have recently released its new, cutting-edge Alphastar cabinet, which utilises Quixant’s latest-generation QXi-6000 technology.

Simon Barff, Blueprint Operations, comments: “Our bond with Quixant has always been extremely strong; we have exclusively specified their technology for many years now. With the Alphastar cabinet, we were mindful of the need for exceptional processing power, fast load times, and impressive graphical capability; the QXi-6000 brings everything we need, and more.”

“It’s very important to listen to customers’ needs,” John Malin, Sales Director for Quixant UK: “We took Blueprint’s brief for their new cabinet, and used it in our platform development phase to ensure that QXi-6000 would satisfy all requirements fully. As well as providing potential for cabinet evolution – to an extra screen, or integration of 4K HD content – we have also ensured future-proofing regarding operating systems, with QXi-6000 being Windows 7, Windows 10 and Linux compatible.”

IRELAND – SIS, a trusted partner to the retail and online betting markets, and the Irish Greyhound Board have announced an additional fixture to be broadcast during Saturday mornings from Tralee greyhound stadium.

The new fixture will be available to UK and Irish betting shops, and online operators as part of SIS’s exclusive streaming portfolio. The meeting will consist of eight races with the first starting at 9.11am. Later races will dovetail the SIS existing retail shop greyhound coverage from Crayford and Romford. SIS already own exclusive rights to broadcast three fixtures in Ireland, with current offerings from Youghal on Monday evenings, Mullingar on Sunday afternoons and a second fixture at Tralee on Tuesday evenings.

Paul Witten, Commercial Director at SIS said: “We have added a second fixture from Tralee to our retail and online programs, following customer demand for greater coverage at suitable times and we see the Saturday morning slot as one of those times. SIS endeavour to offer premium content and streaming provision across all bookmaker channels and the new deal will complement this, thanks to the help of the IGB.

Joe Lewins at IGB said: “This gives us a further opportunity to showcase our racing product to the SIS audience and to build on the success of the three meetings currently being broadcast throughout Ireland and the UK.”

Te Cuidadanos party (Citizens–Party of the Citizenry) has presented a proposal before the Education and Sport Commission in Congress whereby a percentage of the income produced by sports betting and horse racing would be earmarked for state sponsored sports programmes.

According to the text of the new proposal, the funding is warranted due to an additional provision to the text of Spain’s gaming law 13/2001 which was passed in May 2011. According to the text of the bill, a percentage obtained from betting should be returned to sport and sports competitions organised in Spain. However, the funding has not been appropriated. In addition a percentage of all horse race betting should be returned to the organisers of horse race betting which in turn would help improve the state of the local horse racing industry.

Te text of the proposal, which was put forward by Deputy Spokesman of the party, Antonio Roldán argues that revenue generated by sports betting in 2015 amounted to more than €4,200m and almost €5,000m in 2016 while the horse racing industry remained in a "critical situation" despite the success that the industry

has enjoyed in “nearby counties where it generates employment and wealth.”

Te initiative urges the government to develop the regulation as the text of the law states that via sports betting the government should be able to secure “sufficient” and “sustainable” funding for the development and promotion of both amateur and professional sports as well as the participation of Spain in international competitions. In addition the law states that “resources are available to be able to pursue and prevent conduct that damages the integrity of sport, especially in relation to illegal betting and the manipulation of sports results in competition and doping.”

Rodrigo Gómez, spokesman for sports within the Cuidadanos Party said that sports betting was “taking advantage of sport” and that it would be much fairer if the industry gave back something. In addition the money could also be used to combat fraud which he characterised as widespread especially in football’s bottom leagues. “Spain has signed agreements to combat fraud in sports but it has not put the mechanisms in place and this money should also go to controlling and making sure that there is no fraud,” he said.
