Rewarding, developing and caring for our staff


An amazing 3,197 WOW! nominati ons, a 13% increase on last year, were received during 2017/18 for staff who impressed pati ents, visitors and


colleagues by going the extra mile. WOW! winners are invited to a special lunch with our Board and governors and an annual gala. The celebrati on events are to say thank you to all our WOW! winners.


Every summer we hold our Director of Nursing Awards to recognise the outstanding care and dedicati on provided by our nurses, midwives and therapists. We received 527 nominati ons from the public for the 2017 awards and the winners were selected by our public governors.


We provide a wide range of wellbeing experiences and initi ati ves for staff . This includes our staff health and wellbeing campaign, which includes events and therapies, ranging from reiki to meditati on to exercise classes, as well as other internally provided courses.


We also off er staff a variety of support programmes, including Schwartz Centre Rounds™where staff come together to talk about the challenges and experiences of working in a demanding environment; clinical supervision, which are conversati ons to explore the impact our acti ons have; and individual team coaching.


WOW! annual gala Chairman’s Award


There were two winners of the Chairman’s special award. Physiotherapist Rebecca Hawkins claimed


the individual award, with E1 Ward at Basingstoke Hospital taking the team prize.


Rebecca, who is based at Basingstoke and Alton Cardiac Rehabilitati on Centre, in


Alton, was rewarded for the friendly and uplift ing way she cared for a pati ent with angina, having a profound and positi ve impact on his life.


The enti re team on E1 Ward, including doctors, nurses, cleaning staff and porters, won for the way they nursed a very ill woman back to health over the course of seven weeks. The nominati on came from the pati ent’s husband, who was also grateful for the compassion shown towards him by staff on the ward during this diffi cult ti me.
