Case Study

Hayley Connoley is a radiology performance manager, responsible for running the non-clinical side of the service. Hayley is one of the team working on the radiology digital pathways project. This aims to improve the experience for pati ents by reducing the ti me it takes at all stages, taking days off the process. Several members of staff will

be able to access the same informati on simultaneously, making it more effi cient and also reducing the risk of error due to duplicati on of paper forms.

“One of our aims in radiology is to help reduce waiti ng ti mes for pati ents, and I’ve identi fi ed that we can have an impact by uti lising IT to make our service more eff ecti ve. By

replacing a whole host of paper forms with an electronic system, we can reduce the length of ti me pati ents wait for appointments and results by a couple of days, on average.

“Pati ent care is not just about doctors, nurses and other clinical staff . Everyone who works at the Trust has a role to play and this project is really bringing that home to me. It’s great to have a real sense that I’m having a direct impact on pati ent care.

“Going forward, I’d like to become a quality improvement coach and set up a team for the radiology department to look for other ways we can improve pati ent care. There are lots of opportuniti es, it’s about fi nding them and making the improvements happen.”
