Thank you for taking the ti me to read our annual review, which looks back on the year 2017/18 and gives an overview of our plans for 2018/19.
It has been my privilege to be chairman of this organisati on for nearly nine years. Sadly for me, my term will end this December. I am grateful to my Board colleagues and our Governors, past and present, for their support, not just over the last year, but for all my ti me at the Trust.
In this ti me I have seen the NHS become increasingly challenged. Like other Trusts across the country, Hampshire Hospitals conti nues to face extraordinary growth in demand for emergency care. Our populati on conti nues to increase, as do the number of frail elderly people needing our care and the number of pati ents seen in our emergency departments – but our funding simply has not taken this into account. This fi nancial year ended in the 70th anniversary of the founding of the NHS and despite the pressures the NHS faces, it remains an insti tuti on to be celebrated, providing as it does, care to all, free at the point of delivery.
Given this, I would like to pay tribute to our compassionate and dedicated staff , who have conti nued to demonstrate a total commitment to outstanding quality pati ent care despite the pressures that they face every day. This is refl ected in the thousands of nominati ons our staff receive over the course of the year from staff and pati ents showing their appreciati on.
The achievements you will read about in this Annual Review refl ect the commitment of all our staff at every level over the past year. I believe these achievements have put Hampshire Hospitals in a strong positi on to tackle the challenges of 2018/19 and will help us to ensure that we conti nue to provide high-quality pati ent care for the people of Hampshire, West Berkshire and further afi eld. I hope you enjoy reading this review.
