We are disappointed that our commissioners decided not to pursue our proposal for a criti cal treatment hospital due to the current fi nancial positi on. The plan to centralise our most acute services remains our long-term strategy, based on our predicti ons about the challenges we will face in the future.

We have been refl ecti ng on our vision and our strategic objecti ves, and thinking through how we can ensure that we conti nue to provide safe and sustainable services for the populati on we serve.

Our vision is to provide outstanding care for every pati ent. That means ensuring that we think not only about the pati ents we serve today, but the ones who will need our services in the years to come. It also means ensuring that our care is joined up with the care provided outside of our hospital buildings.

To help us achieve our vision, we have developed four strategic objecti ves:

Outstanding care for our pati ents Empowered staff Living within our money Innovati ng for the future

Each of these high-level objecti ves is broken down into a clear set of aims that we will be looking to deliver against in 2018/19, and you can read more about these later in this booklet.

I have no doubt that 2018/19 will be challenging again, and that our staff will conti nue to be amazing. We will provide care to hundreds of thousands of people. It is a privilege to work in the NHS.
