Dr Vas Nadarajah has been working on upgrading the medical inpati ent or “take” list – the list that tells clinicians, nursing staff


and managers which pati ents are being admitt ed and what they might need – from paper to an electronic version.


Updati ng the paper list by hand at the nursing stati on on Acute Admissions Unit (AAU) was causing delays in transferring pati ents and delays to ensuring they got the correct treatment. The introducti on of an electronic list means that all consultants are alerted to pati ents who require their specialist input, speeding up the ti me it takes to arrange


diagnosti cs and treatment, and reducing the length of pati ent stay. The electronic list is now in place across the Trust.


“Bringing this in has been a great achievement for the whole team and it


brings a smile to my face every ti me I see people using it. “Looking forward, I’m excited about introducing a similar system for the Hospital


at Night and Weekends Project, which will help to ensure that we have pati ents being treated by the right people, in the right place, at the right ti me.


“The digiti sati on programme is going to make a huge diff erence. Being able to access all lett ers and notes will really help clinical teams to manage pati ents more effi ciently.


It will be much easier to see what has happened before as their enti re medical history will be at our fi ngerti ps, just a click away.
