On the day we visited the clinic, Stella the cat was being

prepped for surgery. Her leg required amputation after being destroyed by a neighborhood dog during an attack. The pet owner had taken Stella to two other clinics in Tampa, one of which was a low cost clinic. She was told her best option was euthanasia after saying she could not afford to pay for the surgery required to save her cat’s life. Distraught, she found out about, and called Vets 4 Pets, who told her to bring Stella in right away. Whatever people can afford, that is what they pay Vets 4 Pets.

No questions asked. Sometimes, someone pulls out $10. Other times, when it seems daunting as no money is coming in, Karen looks in their fundraising account and finds money, donated from someone in the community. It always comes at the most critical moment. More rescue groups are finding out about Vets 4 Pets and utilizing their services. They pay a reduced fee for treatment, spay/neuter procedures and meds. That money helps the clinic keep operating. There are plenty of tears throughout the day, mostly from

staff. Mostly the tears are happy ones, followed by high fives — lots of high fives. “We love what we’re doing. We can see the difference this clinic is making in the lives of those less fortunate in terms of economics. These are good people,” said Dr. Adriana Odachowski of the clinic’s clientele. Before getting ready to go into surgery, she added, “On a personal level, I believe that, when we’ve had a for- tunate life, it is our responsibility to give back.”
