excited to see my baby’s picture in the magazine. Her name is Lillie Rubin and she is the true definition of a “precious pup.” She is happy, smart and sneaky (in a good way). She loves people, belly rubs and other small dogs. Her favorite treat is chicken. She has a sense of humor and loves to sing whenever she hears the happy birthday song. She was born in Massachusetts 10 years ago and now lives with me in Gulfport (dog heaven). She is enjoying retirement after the long hours she spent in Cambridge hanging out at her parent’s restaurant, City Girl Cafe. Everyone just loves Lillie Rubin. She is just perfect; good looking, smart and funny. Merry Moscato Gulfport

EDITOR’S NOTE: Merry, we fell in love with the Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen (PBGV) when we first encountered the breed many years ago during the Florida Classic Cluster (now the Gulf Coast Classic Cluster) in Brooksville. The AKC describes the PBGV as being alert, vivacious and “happy, happy, happy.” Many people are not familiar with the breed when they see the dog. In fact, we misidentified the breed as a Dandie Dinmont Terrier in a 2014 issue of The New Barker within an article on a dog show we covered. Longtime reader Norine E. Noonan of Live Oak Poodles wrote to give us a heads up. The Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen was developed to hunt

game by scent. The origin of the breed can be traced as far back as the sixteenth century. Petit means small. Basset means low to the ground. Griffon refers to the wire coat. Vendéen refers to the area of France where the breed originated. The PBGV Club of America has a Florida representative for rescue. The organization reaches out to assist families that

LIFE WITH DOGS have been a subscriber since the very beginning of the pub- lication of your magazine and enjoy it very much. Please ensure that I continue to receive the magazine and let me

know if there is anything I need to do to make this happen. Kudos to you and your amazing staff on the publication of a truly wonderful resource for those of us that want to share life experiences with our dogs and ensure they receive the best care and most pampering available. O

LILY AND THE OCTOPUS h my goodness, I absolutely loved the book. I didn’t have much of an idea of what it was about. Once I started reading it I could not stop. I sobbed out loud

and also laughed. This has been especially timely for me as we lost our Beagle girl, Georgia, in July. Also, just had to let our sweet mini doxie Hurley go this past Sunday. The sadness is overwhelming, but it is the blessing of our memories with these precious ones that gets us through. Thank you again for the gift of the book Lily and the Octopus. CORRECTION: On page 8 in our summer/fall issue, the name of the dog with Diane Rosenberg, our Northeast Florida rover reporter, was incorrectly given. Beans is the dog’s correct name. He is a white Shepherd mix who recently crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. R.I.P., Beans.
