There is no specific drug that will kill the highly contagious virus in infected puppies. Treatment is intended to support the dog's body systems until

the immune system can fight off the viral infection. Jamie built an isolation room for just such cases. Recently, two litters came in with CPV and ended up costing her $22,000 to treat. We learned about Jamie’s

Rescue through a press release set to us from the Pet Philanthropy Circle. They were awarding Jamie’s Rescue with one of their 2016 Pet Hero Awards, as Rescue Organization of the Year. Jamie would be in good company. Alison Eastwood, actress and daughter of actor/director Clint Eastwood, and singer/actress Naomi Judd were both receiving awards as well. The 5th annual anniversary ceremony took place on October 7th in New York City — the same weekend Hurricane Matthew was scheduled to make landfall. She could not risk leav- ing her animals during such a crisis, and cancelled her flight and hotel reservations, forfeiting her deposit money. Even more disap- pointing than losing the money was the opportunity lost to meet wealthy donors interested in helping groups like Jamie’s Rescue. The soiree is attended by many of animal welfare’s most notable philanthropists. “It was heartbreaking,” said Jamie.

When funding is down, like it is now, Jamie’s Rescue cuts

back. It means they aren’t able to pull the dogs sitting at MDAS. Will she look away from a box of puppies on the side of the road? Probably not. Yet, somehow, Jamie’s Rescue survives in spite of the ups and downs. “I have some savings. I have no

mortgage and my expenses are minimal. Everything goes back into running the rescue and for the dogs. I don’t buy anything for myself, which is fine because I had a big life. I lived large for a long time, and I don’t miss any of it. I love doing this. I wake up every morning and feel really blessed because my entire life I’ve been

able to do what I love. First it was photography, now it is saving dogs. They give me so much. Yes, it’s a challenge, financially and emotionally. But, this is what I’ve devoted the last part of my life to. I hope other people feel it’s worthwhile as well and consider helping Jamie’s Rescue.”
