ROH LIVE ANASTASIA Wed 02 Nov @ 7.15pm, Encore Sun 06 Nov @ 2pm An identity in crisis; a country in revolution. Anastasia is a ballet about one of the great historical mysteries of the 20th century, only recently solved. One of Kenneth MacMillan’s first creations on becoming Director of The Royal Ballet in 1970, Anastasia is a dramatic and haunting exploration of memory and identity. A powerful, psychological challenge for the principal ballerina, this is a rare opportunity to see a landmark ballet by a major choreographer.

A HISTORY OF ARCHITECTURE IN 100 BUILDINGS Fri 04 Nov @ 7.30pm Journeying through time and place, from the ancient Egyptian pyramids to the soaring skyscrapers of Manhattan, renowned architectural historian Dan Cruickshank explores the most inspirational and characterful world buildings.


His selection includes many of the world’s best known buildings that represent key pioneering moments in architectural history. But he also presents less obvious more surprising structures ,the unsung heroes of this fascinating story. Having visited all but three of the 100 buildings, even though some are in inaccessible and threatend locations such as the Hatra in Iraq and the currently threatened Palmyra in Syria, he speaks movingly about ancient artefacts some of which may never be experienced again first hand.


GLORIOUS CHORUS IN CONCERT (PLUS SUPPORT) Sat 05 Nov @ 7.30pm Back by popular demand, International Award Winning Composer Helen Yeomans brings her acclaimed a capella choir to The Flavel. The 40 plus strong choir will return to surprise and delight the audience with a concert of beautiful, heartfelt music. Original music written by Helen to include her award winning song ‘Saved’ along with soulful gospel music, mash up compositions, simple stripped back harmonies and popular classics which have been given a ‘Yeomans’ twist are to be performed.


MARTIN TURNER Fri 11 Nov @ 8pm Wishbone Ash were one of the most enduring and best loved British rock acts and its name synonymous with high quality guitar-driven melodic rock music, as featured on classic album releases such as Argus and Live Dates. Founding lead vocalist and key creative force Martin Turner continues to perform the band’s best loved works with his current band line-up.

ROH LIVE LES CONTES D’HOFFMANN Tues 15 Nov @ 6.15pm, Encore Sun 20 Nov @ 2pm The Royal Opera’s lavish production of Les Contes d’Hoffmann (The Tales of Hoffmann), Offenbach’s masterpiece, is a favourite with audiences. Created by Academy Award-winning film director John Schlesinger, this production brings alive a 19th-century world of romance, comedy, mystery and menace. Charismatic young tenor Vittorio Grigolo is Hoffmann – compelled to tell the story of his lovers who, he believes, have all been stolen by a succession of arch villains. Superb baritone Thomas Hampson performs all four villains.


FOLK AT THE FLAVEL – MARTIN SIMPSON Thurs 17 Nov @ 7.30pm Widely acknowledged as one of the finest acoustic and slide guitar players in the world, Martin Simpson’s interpretations of traditional songs are masterpieces of storytelling. He has been named BBC Radio 2 Folk Award’s Musician of the Year twice and there is no doubt that, after 45 years as a professional musician, Martin is better than ever.


CANDLELIT ARIAS Fri 25 Nov @ 7.30pm Celebrate the start of Yuletide with The Little Opera Company when they return to the Flavel this Christmas for an evening of opera favourites. Bring a festive fizz to the Christmas season with this vibrant young company and their highly entertaining, fun-filled shows. ‘One of the most exciting young opera groups to emerge onto the classical music scene in recent years’.
