Around Kingswear

Picnic in the Park Kingswear Family Fun Day exceeded

all expectations on Sunday, September 11th when villagers and visitors turned out in force for a day of fun and frolics on Jubilee Park – in glorious sunshine! There was something for everyone

to enjoy. The children had a variety of games, crafts and competitions, face painting and a bubble disco. Lez the Fez ran a balloon workshop and magically changed into The Town Crier of Dartmouth officially to open the proceedings. The morning offered a magnificent display of classic cars, which formed a motorcade procession around the village. We got up close and personal to owls and birds of prey, which were left fairly threadbare at the end of the afternoon by all the stroking and admiration. The Duck Race, which was generous- ly sponsored by Dartmouth Holiday Homes, got off to a sticky start when the chase boat got fouled in mooring lines and the wind direction forced them towards Salcombe. However we eventually retrieved the winners and Rowcroft was better off by over £1,000! The Fun Dog Show was very well supported and we are grateful to Pet

Nature for providing all the prizes and rosettes. And the excitement contin- ued with snail racing and a Tug of War building up to a crescendo with The Great Kingswear Eggathon when Foun- tain Violet eggs took to the skies! The food was provided by Ian Fenton and his spit lamb roast, Holly and David Jones with their Wood Fired Oven, the WI Cake stall and Dartmouth Ice Cream Company... and of course, there was a generously stocked bar. We are very grateful to all our spon- sors who also include Chris Hoyle Ma- rine, The Coastal House, Kaywanna Hall, Kingswear Builders, Noss Marina, Rad- dicombe Lodge , Rockfish, Colin Lang at the The Ship Inn and the Trevorrows and to all the kind raffle prize donors. The other charities which will benefit are Shelterbox, Kingswear Rowing Club and The Village Hall Window Fund. And of course, many thanks to the committee and to all the volunteers who gave their time so generously and without whom the event could not happen. And next year it will be bigger and better... so watch this space!
