The 2014 Summer
Fancy Food Show by Ken Alan
The 60th Summer Fancy Food Show took place June 29-July 1 at NewYork City’s Javitz Center and it proved once again to be a colorful and tasteful showcase for the culinary industry’s top purveyors and artisans.
From soups to nuts, crackers to chocolates; tantalizing meats, cheeses, crusty breads and other baked goods, to exotic condi- ments and oils, coffees, teas, craft beers and fine wines from all over the world, presenters enjoyed the opportunity to cater to and educate the tens of thou- sands of ultimately-fulfilled atten- dees.
This year’s show paid special attention to bold new food trends via its featured “hot hall- way” of notably-new foods and unique packaging designs. 2014’s most unique (and tasty) F&B items included:many varieties of smoked foods; gourmet butters, (surprisingly); lots and lots of jerky; along with gallons of bar- becue sauces; and, seemingly, an ocean’s worth of different kinds of sea salts.
If these products are any indica- tion of what’s soon in store for supermarket and grocery shelves, the coming months are sure to be deliciously-exciting ones for U.S. consumers.
