Rescues in the Park was Animal Rescue Friends Network’s (ARF’N) inaugural fundraising event. Held at Crews Lake Wilderness Park in Pasco County on October 13th, the event raised funds and awareness for rescue dogs in Pasco and Hernando Counties. The beautiful park setting offered the perfect backdrop for a day of fun for friends, families and their furry companions. Several local rescue groups with their adoptable pets par- ticipated along with animal friendly vendors, educational booths, food vendors, silent auction, and a Kids FunZone. The Pasco County Mounted Police, along with the Power Rangers of Spring Hill, were there to keep everyone safe. One of the highlights of the day was guest speaker Dahlia Canes, from Miami Coalition Against Breed Specific Legislation. She spoke to the crowd about the ineffectiveness of BSL, then led a Pit Bull pack walk and Doggie Parade with Willow Wonder Bull and Jade of The Proper Dog etiQuette. Of course, the costume contest was a big hit with dogs of all shapes and sizes. One very unique fea- ture of the event was a live auction for donated items that ranged from doggy goodies and services, to a beautiful homemade quilt and travel packages. The event was a success and ARF’N plans to make this an annual event to continue to bring awareness and funds to reputable rescues in the area. ARF’N is a 501c3 rescue that is

The animals that come into ARF’N are usually obtained from animal services shelters in Pasco, Hernando and Citrus Counties. The animals are often difficult to place and may require medical care and some- times behavior training before being released for adoption. This is a dedicat- ed group of people taking care of spe- cial needs and hard to place animals in the community.
