Tennis balls and a swimming pool – a combination that most dogs cannot resist, whether they are natural born swimmers or not. That was proven time and again during the annual Soggy Doggie Party, hosted by Largo Parks and Recreation Department at the Highland Family Aquatic Center on October 5 and 6. Dogs of all sizes and breeds enjoyed jumping, belly flopping, running, swim- ming and chasing tennis balls in and around the Aquatic Center’s pools. Dog swims at public swimming


pools have been growing in popularity over the last couple of years. The events are scheduled after the seasonal closing of the public pool. As a safety precaution, humans are not allowed to swim in the pool during the dog swims. The day is usually broken up in two sessions - one for big dogs, the other for smaller dogs. No doubt, these water logged dogs

Counterclockwise, starting with top photo: Basil is a six-month-old Dachshund, running off some of that puppy energy. Devo is a Doberman Pincher, cutting stealthily through the water. Rookie is a four-year-old Beagle mix who cannot believe his good fortune. Sophie is a curious 16-week-old Golden Retriever puppy.
