GETTING CREATIVE WITH SOME FINISHING TOUCHES FOR CONCRETE POOLS
Imagination is all it takes to turn a conventional concrete pool into something special, according to Golden Coast. “With a little creativity, it is possible to transform any pool into a fun activity pool, by introducing special features, such as multicoloured underwater lighting, water curtain or cannon devices, diving boards and slides,” says Jamie Adams, the company’s Managing Director. Before even the first drop of concrete is poured Golden Coast works closely with installers on the design – sourcing everything from the basics and fittings to the latest fun features.
“Introducing cascading or moving water into your pool enhances any swimming experience, whether it’s to help bathers relax muscles and relieve stress or to add excitement for young children, and big kids, too,” says Adams.
Adding movement in the water can also
be achieved by using one of five ‘in wall’ Badu flush-mounted counter-current systems that create a powerful jet of water for ‘power swimming’, or resistance for an enjoyable therapeutic walk or jog. It can even be used to create a fun ‘bubble bath’ when children are using the pool. Shedding new light is the LED ‘Spectravision’ lighting range available in two models, one producing a pure moonlight white light, the other offering 16 magical colours; the Adagio Plus combines white and coloured LED’s in one unit to produce up to 5,400 lumens.
Ultra flat, the unit can be fitted into either a standard light niche for new pools or into an existing niche for retro-fit and is suitable for use with a standard 12V AC transformer; an optional remote control allows simple on/off operation and complete management of the colour modes.
And talking of lights, more than 2,000 SaVi

underwater LED lights have been supplied exclusively by Golden Coast, making them one of the most popular creative lighting systems available.
All the lighting systems produce a variety of effects either for general illumination or to create themed ‘mood lighting’, giving the pool water a single colour wash or an ever-changing combination as the system scrolls through different colour sequences.
Associates on behalf of the college and presented a challenge for Advanced Pool Services and Contech, but the desire to create a waterproof concrete structure to within 2mm of the specified length (as well as square and vertical alignment to allow the full moving floor to operate correctly) was dealt with by design and planning and presented very little problem on site. The completed shell measures 2.8m deep and was built with total accuracy using 3D laser positioning. Spraying of the concrete was carried out during appalling weather conditions but was still completed on time by careful control of the pump concrete mix and increased site supervision. The shell was well within tolerance and needed very little attention to pass water test prior to rendering.
Contech UK carry out a great deal of their installations in central London basements where access is tight and confined and their method of construction wins hands down. Average build times for basement pools can be as little as ten days start to finish.
Concrete offers endless shape and design options especially for complex shell structures
