concrete – whether gunite or shotcrete – is still top of the list though and that’s thanks to the many benefits it provides combined with its shear flexibility, pools created using concrete are strong, durable, resistant to disasters, have low permeability and good thermal mass. In fact for luxury pools, especially larger ones, it’s difficult to think of a more versatile building material than sprayed concrete.

hen considering luxury swimming pool construction, for many, concrete is still the material of choice. And sprayed

concrete, wood, steel, and polystyrene which is ideal for meeting the requirements of the Part L Building Regulation for indoor pools. For one reason and another it will always have its critics. Some say projects using it are too easily affected by bad weather, others that it is more expensive and some, that it is slower than other building methods but companies within the sector say that the sprayed concrete process can be completed in up to 50% of the time of traditional shuttered and poured method reducing labour costs and considerably speeding up construction time.

Easily transported, economic, speedy and when used with steel reinforcement, it offers endless shape and design options especially for complex shell structures in swimming pools and other wet environments.

Any surface suitable for accepting fresh concrete can be used as a back shutter such as

One thing that most will agree on though is that pools built through pneumatically applied concrete are very flexible and built to last and it’s this that makes them the first choice of builders, architects and designers who want to create a quality pool – even in these tougher economic times.

To produce sprayed concrete pools properly however, requires a high level of skill and experience but the benefits of using sprayed concrete are clear.
