n the run up to Christmas, there normally seems to be a slowing down of work but for me, the last few weeks have been nothing short of crazy. Having recently taken over the reigns as Editor of SPN, this edition is my first and I hope you enjoy reading it.

I

Even though I’ve been working with the magazine for a good five years, getting acquainted with the relevant contacts, combined with setting up a new business (SPN is now owned and published by Aqua Publishing Ltd) and visiting the world’s largest pool and spa show have together provided a number of logistical challenges. In fact, it’s been nothing short of a juggling act which I hope I have pulled off.

With so much going on, for me personally, the Piscine show in Lyon couldn’t have come at a worse time, but having now attended, I have no regrets whatsoever. If you’ve never been to Piscine and ever get the chance of going, do – it’s both impressive and perhaps more importantly inspiring. With over 600 exhibitors, there are literally hundreds of products on show and the knowledge to be gained from visiting an event so unique is invaluable. In fact my only regret is that I wasn’t there for longer!

I was also at LIW in Birmingham back in September and with two industry shows now visited within the last three months, there seems to be a common theme emerging and it’s one of positivity. I don’t want to get too excited just yet but the mood of people within the industry seems to be changing and there is a definite increase in optimism surrounding what next year holds.

With that in mind and with two UK trade shows going ahead at the start of 2013, I would encourage readers of SPN to attend at least one of them. Whether it’s Birmingham, Brighton or indeed both, getting out and speaking to those in the know about the latest products on the market and services on offer has surely got to be a good thing. Keeping abreast of the latest trends and technologies is empowering, especially when you are talking to a person face to face. The enthusiasm is shared, it’s personal, it’s communication at its best.

Here at SPN we’re feeling optimistic and excited about what next year holds too. We have some fantastic plans for both the magazine and website which will be introduced over the next few months but we’re also happy to hear your views on what you would like to see in SPN, so if you have any comments on what we’re doing, please do get in touch or come and see us at SPATEX in Brighton.

Finally, I’d just like to finish by highlighting our regular emailers. If you currently only receive the magazine, please go to our website and sign up for them as we will be carrying more news electronically in 2013. The process is simple, will take no more than a minute of your time and means that you’ll get exclusive news direct to the inbox of your choice and perhaps best of all, it’s an extra that’s free!
