JC LEISURE AND LA FITNESS – A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN
DALESAUNA BRINGS A TOUCH OF ROME TO ST ALBANS
This autumn saw the opening of Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre, a state of the art facility for local residents of St Albans and surrounding communities. In addition to a wide range of health and fitness facilities, the development offers a full- scale spa with a variety of heat experiences designed and installed by Dalesauna. The design of the spa was based on the principles of Roman bathing, where guests would move between a series of rooms with varying temperature and humidity, for the optimum relaxation experience.
With a high end finish throughout, including gold streaked glass mosaic tiles, the local authority leisure centre offers experiences to rival the most luxurious of spas.
Gerard McCarthy, Sales Director at Dalesauna, says: “We are pleased to be working closely with local councils such as St Albans District Council to provide all round wellness solutions. Consumers have come to expect a quality experience from leisure providers, whether local authorities or exclusive gyms.” The spa includes a caldarium, a tiled room with benches heated to a mild temperature cooler than a traditional sauna. This leads into a laconium, a hotter, drier area in which to relax. A tepidarium provides a large seating space with heated
loungers and floor offering the feeling of consistent heat from head to toe.
An aromatherapy steam room allows up to 15 guests to unwind comfortably and enjoy infused essences while they gradually adjust to warmer temperatures for the ultimate in spa relaxation. Guests can also enjoy a top of the range Kelo Sauna featuring fibre optic lighting which provides a complete sensory experience for up to 20 guests at a time. Monsoon Showers emulate the experience of a tropical rain shower, enhanced with cooling blue lights and the addition of peppermint essence. Gerard adds: “People are working longer hours than ever and becoming increasingly savvy shoppers. This means they always take into consideration value for money as well as relaxation. With 30 years of industry experience, we can provide truly bespoke solutions that bring luxury spa experiences to the masses at competitive prices. It is commendable that local authorities now see the value in wellness and we look forward to continuing to help them provide innovative solutions nationwide.”

MALI PUTS WATERCO’S EXOTUF FILTER TANK TO THE TEST
Of all the functions a Waterco filter tank has to fulfil, a toy for a young elephant is not one that first comes to mind!
However, earlier this year an Exotuf filter tank became just that, after Waterco donated the product as a birthday present to a two year old Asian elephant at one of the world’s most popular zoos. “Waterco was contacted by the zoo to see
whether we had any old filter tanks,” says Tony Fisher, Waterco Europe’s Managing Director. “It was an out of the blue request that we were happy to help with.” The elephant in question, a female called Mali, was the first elephant to be born at the zoo. She and her one year old brother, Ongard, are the products of a breeding programme that aims to increase the numbers of this beloved endangered species. The zoo says they requested the tank because they believed it would be a sturdy, entertaining and enriching toy for Mali.
“We try to keep all of our animals happy,” says Pamela Sutton-Legaud, Zoo Foundation’s Executive Director. “We want their lives to be enriched, and for them to have the opportunity to play and discover new things. We thought Waterco’s filter tank would be an ideal fit.” Since receiving the toy earlier in the year, Mali regularly tosses, kicks and jumps on her toy.
Weighing in at 900kg on her birthday, Mali certainly puts the filter tank’s strength to the test! That really goes above and beyond any normal R&D testing procedures!!
“Waterco produces a very comprehensive range of swimming pool and water treatment equipment,” says Tony. “Our real forte is the manufacture of strong, corrosion resistant, durable plastics and fibreglass based equipment such as pumps and filters.
“The Exotuf is a testament to our manufacturing capabilities. It offers superior strength and dependability and is designed to cope with the cyclic pressures of the modern day swimming pool.”
