Andover was the venue for this year’s AGMs and the event was again sponsored by Nsure. Special thanks are extended to Keith Bull at Nsure for his support and also to Matthew Adams (Hampshire County Council Trading Standards) and Charles Goodchild (The Concrete Centre) for their respective presentations on Distance Selling Regulations and differences between the old BS 8007 and 8110 standards and the new BS EN 1992 (Eurocode 2) standards. The respective presentations can be viewed in the members area of the BISHTA and SPATA websites. The AGMs confirmed the incoming BSPF President as Martin Borley (Tanby Pools), the SPATA Chairman is Richard Carrington (Calorex), BISHTA’s Chair is Issy Rickards Sanger (Elite Spas) and PIP’s Chairman is Jamie Adams (Golden Coast). SPATEX’s Chairman is Howard Gosling and this company AGM is being held in March 2013. The main thrust of the AGMs was based on updating members with news from home and abroad and to hear from members on what they would like to see from their respective Trade Association. The heartening news is that the resources being provided are of

KENT WELCOMED PRESIDENT’S WEEKEND
John and Lynn Scott hosted a lovely weekend in sunny Canterbury and the cultural experience was a hit with those guests that attended. A tour of Canterbury Cathedral and then a walk around the Canterbury Tales was followed by some serious shopping and then a lovely evening meal at the Best Western Abbots Barton Hotel. The entertainment was of a high standard on both the Friday night during which guests’ thoughts were unveiled by Alex the Mind Reader, followed by a Jazz Quartet who performed during after dinner drinks, and also on the Saturday night when guests enjoyed a little after dinner dancing to a Michael Buble tribute act. The President’s Weekend always provides an opportunity to meet up with colleagues in a relatively informal setting and SPATA and BISHTA members are able to attend this event, along with any invited guests.
value and the weekly e-newsletter format seems to be providing members with the right amount of
information to stay abreast of any relevant developments. A reminder to members that multiple email
addresses can be sent the e- newsletter if this is useful for your business.
REGIONAL MEETINGS HIGHLIGHT EXCLUSIVE MEMBER INFORMATION
The SPATA regional meetings this year were held in a variety of locations around the country, with the first one kicking off as a combined North and Midlands meeting at The Old Golf House Hotel (near Huddersfield). The second meeting was held in Exeter, thanks to Brad Cannings who hosted the South West meeting. The third meeting was a combined South East and Thames Valley meeting held at Brighton & Hove Albion’s Amex Stadium and included a ground tour of the stadium. The Brighton meeting was arranged through Nsure, who have an Executive Box at the ground to watch
the home games. The final meeting was held at the Museum of Power in Maldon, Essex for the East Anglia region. The main messages at each meeting were provided on the benefits that SPATA members have from their membership. The growing number of materials available in the documents section of the members’ area in the SPATA website impressed a number of attendees and all members are encouraged to view the information available on the site. Other presenters at some of the regional meetings included John Asher, who spoke
passionately about why he believes the trade should support SPATEX, to ensure the industry continues to receive funds to promote and support the work of the industry. Dorian Davies from Doric Marketing (please see his article on page 36) spoke about the importance of Marketing and PR, while Keith Bull spoke about the value of insurance and he produced some new draft member factsheets on insurance that he has been developing, which will be put on the website when they are finalised.
For those members that have not been to a meeting recently, please spare some time in your busy schedule to meet up with colleagues to find out the latest developments in the industry and to pick up free resources from SPATA for you to use. Meeting dates for 2013 are being finalised, but they are usually between late February / March and again in October / November to avoid the main activity of the year.
SPATA would like to thank each of the Regional Chairs for their assistance with organising and promoting the meetings.
