ISLE OF WIGHT POOL RE OPENS

The renovated swimming pool at The Heights leisure centre is to open in October on the Isle of Wight. NEWQUAY LANDMARK HOTEL GETS A WELLNESS MAKEOVER

The Headland Hotel in Newquay, one of South-West England’s most well known hotels, has completed a high profile refurbishment of its existing pool with the addition of a Wellness suite.

Overlooking Fistral Beach in Newquay, the hotel has earned itself a reputation for being a haven of calm and tranquillity and it was this quality that the owners wanted to capture when it came to the refurbishment.

The hotel turned to the services of specialist pool builders of over 13 years standing in Cornwall and the South West, Apex Pool Engineers Ltd of Goonhavern and they recommended the Tranquillity Wellness range from Certikin. A Tranquillity Cornish salt steam room, aromatherapy showers, large tiled overflow spa bath and sauna were installed in time for a grand opening. Other equipment included the Aquaspeed pump, Alpine filters and spa control panel. The Wellness features will be joined in 2013 by five spa treatment rooms, gym and hydrotherapy pool making the Headland a mecca in the South West for spa lovers.

Paul Heather of Apex Engineers says: “This is the first time that we have installed the Certikin one-piece tiled spa and it went in like a dream. We worked closely with Certikin’s Commercial division, and in particular Steve Nelson. He was first class in his recommendation of equipment and advice.”

Mike Reynolds, Health and Safety Manager for The Headland says: “The Wellness area has received excellent reviews from our guests and attracted a whole new audience from outside the hotel. The sauna and steam room, in particular, have been

very popular. Although state-of-the- art, the complex complements the hotel’s Victorian grandeur.”

ECODUCT TACKLE POOL PROJECT WITH PRE-INSULATED DUCTWORK

Nottinghamshire-based ecoduct has installed an exciting cost effective, pre-insulated ductwork in a swimming pool at a residential property in rural Lincolnshire. The ductwork is fabricated from the Kingspan KoolDuct® System. Ecoduct, a trading division of e2 Environmental Engineering, specialises in the supply of fully engineered, bespoke air-distribution systems designed and built to meet the exacting needs of mechanical and HVACR specifications.

Mark Burton, Project Manager at ecoduct said: “As a Kingspan KoolDuct® System Delivery Partner, Kingspan put Peter Knight, owner of the property, in touch with us. Peter visited our offices where we showed him the ductwork and talked him through its benefits, explaining why it

is preferable to conventional systems. “We knew we could save Peter time and money by installing this system which also helps to cut

energy use and CO2 emissions. It’s also ideal for high relative humidity environments, such as swimming pools. Stainless steel and galvanised ductwork would have worked out more expensive, would require lagging and galvanised has the propensity to corrode over time.” He added: “We carried out a full survey of the site, worked out a bespoke solution and fabricated the ductwork using the latest CNC blade machinery at our premises in Mansfield. Peter had already specified a pool heater that incorporated an air-handling unit so we were able to size the entire system appropriately to achieve the required airflow.

“Aesthetics were important to Peter so we fitted the ductwork around the perimeter of the 12 metre x 6 metre pool to be eventually enclosed, out of sight, within the structural floor.” Peter Knight said: “The installation itself was very efficient with the team happy to incorporate a couple of minor adjustments to make sure everything was completed to my satisfaction. I’m delighted with the end result.”
