Filters OCT 2012 SPN

73

Pool filters play a defining role in the search for purer water and better, more efficient systems. In their many forms and guises, they are the most important of the components that make up a pool or hot tub water cleansing system

in many forms including fibreglass, thermoplastic or polyester. Some are bobbin wound and they include currently the fastest growing sector of the market – cartridge filters. In the UK, sand filters, which contain a filtration media, are probably the most widely used for swimming pools whilst cartridge filters are effective for both hot tubs and swimming pools. Whatever the choice the main purpose of the swimming pool filter system is simply to keep pool water clear and clean. All the different types are manufactured for the removal of airborne dirt and leaves, organic matter introduced by bathers and other organisms such as bacteria and algae. This mechanical entrapping process is achieved through the different techniques, cartridge pool filters, diatomaceous earth pool filters, and sand or other granular filter media pool filters. Management systems specialists advising pool owners on how to run pools and reduce costs believe pool filters are the first place to start when it comes to combining energy saving and reliable water management.

maintenance and filter servicing costs without compromising quality and also being kinder to the environment.

Chief Executive Alan Lester said: “Prior to us working with Gaffey Technical Services we would carry out a full sand change or crust change on our customers’ filters. This was messy, labour intensive and time consuming. New sand media supplies, transport and waste disposal, this all added up to an expensive procedure. Using the DesoPur product we can carry out the cleansing of the filter media in half the time and at half the cost for the customer.”

WATERCO CONTINUES TO BUILD ON MULTICYCLONE SUCCESS

Pool and water treatment specialist Waterco Europe Ltd continues to develop the success of its award-winning centrifugal pre-filter, the MultiCyclone. New products and developments are being launched this autumn adding to the MultiCyclone theme. The MultiCyclone Plus, which was designed in Australia, uses advanced hydro cyclone technology to reduce the footprint of the filtration system. It

combines all of the revolutionary features of its predecessor with an inbuilt cartridge filter – and the streamlined design means the pool filtration system can be installed vertically, on top of a standard pool pump or on a base alongside the circulation pump.

The MultiCyclone Plus offers the environmental benefits of cartridge filtration without the inconvenience of frequent filter cartridge removal, cleaning and replacement as well as reducing the need for excessive volumes of water used to cleanse a traditional sand filter. Waterco have created two MultiCyclone Plus models, the MC16(40) 2" and MC12(40) 1½". In addition to the MultiCyclone range, Waterco also have the Exotuf – the next generation of injection moulded sand filters.

Constructed from high impact polypropylene, and with a pressure rating of 3.5bar, the Exotuf is manufactured to the highest quality and reliability ensuring years of trouble free operation. In fact Exotuf sand filters are so ‘tough’ that they come complete with a ten year full tank warranty.
