PRECISION CARTRIDGES T
Darlly is the world’s best known name in filter cartridges where design and the use of unique fabrics has carved out a market leading role
here is nothing more important for a spa or hot tub than the quality and clarity of the water. Whether or not this can be achieved depends on the quality of the filtration system! The effectiveness of a modern filter cartridge depends on a few key components: the core, the end caps, bands and most importantly the filtration media.
Darlly Europe Limited, through Filters4Spas, is the major supplier of quality filter cartridges and continues to invest in research and development to improve filtration in other business sectors including medical, where precision filtration is vital. Fiberweb’s Reemay® filtration media have been market leaders for many years.
“The quality of the filtration media starts with the shape of the fibres”
One way that Reemay filtration fabric delivers is with its Trilobal fibres which give a high surface area. The quality of the filtration media starts with the shape of the fibres.
Reemay® uses Trilobal fibres in its filtration fabric which deliver 45% more fibre surface area than a round fibre at the same basis weight. The unique shape promotes a more turbulent flow or ‘tortuous path’. This causes particles to deposit
within the media delivering increased efficiency without the pressure drop penalty.
Reemay®’s house testing has shown alternative materials are less rigid making the removal of contaminates more difficult. This causes particles to clog the material causing pressure drop. This leads to the life expectancy of the cartridge to deteriorate rapidly.
These lower cost, lower quality other filtration fabrics generally produce significantly lower cartridge performance, with filters lasting a few weeks, at best, months. This compares with Reemay® life expectancy of between one and two years.
Substandard filter fabric means a substandard filter. One that clogs quicker requires more frequent cleaning and creates inferior water conditions. The end results, the filter cartridge need replacing more frequently.
The design of the core is vital. A consistent flow will increase clarity of water in the spa and prolong the life of the filter, which then reduces overloading of the pump.
The core is essential to the strength of the cartridge, removing any dangers of the cartridge ‘collapsing’.
The weakest part of a filter is the screw-thread, often removed in the wrong direction by the end- user and given the heat of that part it can often result in a sheer of the thread left in place often costing a lot to repair. Darlly guarantee the screw thread for its lifetime.
A 12 month money-back guarantee is given on all Darlly filter cartridges.
The filter in a hot tub is the hardest piece of
equipment in the water care system to keep impeccably clean. The filter works continuously to keep water free from impurities such as body fats, debris and contaminates. A dirty, clogged or worn- out filter will fail in its job of trapping contaminants, it will reduce the flow rate from the jets and create pressure on the pumps, often resulting in burnt out compressors, or worse still a burnt out pump. On a recent survey of service engineers this was one of the top three reasons for a call-out. Darlly have developed products to aid in the ease and efficiency of filter cartridge cleaning: The Cyclone is a handheld spa and hot tub filter cartridge cleaning device. A trigger-controlled unit reduces filter cleaning time and ensures a cleaner filter, removing more dirt and grime. Darlly has also developed a specially formulated and organic (non-acidic) liquid filter cleaner, Darlly Cartridge Filter Cleaner is double strength, and half the cost of traditional filter de- greasing liquids.
The Pure Stream ion exchange resin pre-filter gives a hot tub softer, safer water. Hard water is not good for spas. As well as uncomfortable scale on the walls of the tub, white calcium marks on the jets, and limescale build up in the filter, it is inside where all the damage is done, especially in the heater, eventually limescale will become present in the tub in the form of ‘calcium flakes’. spn
