Level 2 BTEC Diploma in Sport


(SPS10021) This course provides a background and range of skills and knowledge required for employment in the sport and recreation industries. Entry requirements: BTEC Level 1 Diploma (merit), or 4 GCSEs at grades D-G (including English), plus a satisfactory reference. Possible next steps: BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (minimum of merit/distinction grade required), or employment in sport and recreation. Length of course (weeks): 36 Hours per week: 10


Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in


Sport (SPS10038) The BTEC Diplomas in Sport are designed to equip people with the knowledge, skills and understanding needed for progression into employment or further educational opportunities. The BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport (Performance and Excellence) is a specialist qualifi cation that focuses on a specifi c vocational area. People will study the core concepts common to all the Extended Diplomas in Sport but will also study other areas that are key to the study of sports performance. It is an integral part of the education of young elite athletes in the UK, being part of the technical certifi cate requirement on the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence. Entry requirements: BTEC Level 2 Diploma (merit) or 4 GCSEs at grades A-C (one of which should be English). Possible next steps: University, undergraduate courses, Foundation Degree courses, or into employment in sport and recreation. Length of course (weeks): 72 (2 years) Hours per week: 16

Higher National Certifi cate / Diploma


(HNC/D) in Sport (SPS32298) This exciting Higher Education course is “hands on” and offers training that is based on the needs of employers and professional bodies. The HNC / HND has been developed to focus on providing education and training for a range of careers in Active Leisure. It provides opportunities for you to gain a nationally recognised vocationally specifi c qualifi cation to enter into employment or to progress to higher level qualifi cations. This course is also ideal for those who are already employed, or aspire to be employed in a variety of types of work, such as performance analysis, nutrition for sport and exercise, sports development, sports coaching, education, research and development. Entry requirements: A Sport and Recreation qualifi cation at Level 3 and a wish to progress to a higher level and gain a recognised qualifi cation for employment. People already working within the sector will also be considered. Possible next steps: Progression to employment, postgraduate courses. Length of course (weeks): 36 for HNC and a further 36 for HND. Hours per week: 10 (day/evening)
