Carpentry and Joinery
Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry (full-time: CON11286 or part-time:
CON41266) You will learn about: hand tools and their maintenance, basic joints and how to cut them, how to use portable power tools, how to work safely and the building team and how it works together. You will also learn how to communicate and work effectively with others. The course includes basic building methods and construction technology and you’ll learn how to quantify materials required for the work you will be expected to do. How to safely move and store materials is also covered. Entry requirements: A College assessment and interview. You need high motivation as 100% attendance is required, and a desire to work in the construction industry. Possible next steps: Construction Diploma Level 2 in either site carpentry or bench joinery or the appropriate Apprenticeship framework at level 2. Length of course (weeks): 36 (3 days per week for the full- time option, 1 day per week for the part-time option) Hours per week: 15 (or 10.5 for the part-time option)
Level 2 Diploma in Site Carpentry
(CON40070) You will learn how to store and handle materials, erect basic working platforms (tower scaffolds), work effectively and safely as a team, hang doors, fi x architrave and skirting, fi x door frames and linings, case in services, lay joisting and fl oors and erect trussed rafter roofs. Entry requirements: Successful completion of NVQ level 1 or level 1 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery. Possible next steps: Site Carpentry Diploma (level 3) or the appropriate Apprenticeship framework at level 3. Length of course (weeks): 36 (1 day per week) Hours per week: 9
Level 2 Diploma in Bench Joinery
(CON42081) You will learn how to store and handle materials, erect basic working platforms (tower scaffolds) and work effectively and safely as a team. You will also learn how to set out and make routine joinery products including doors, frames, stairs and fi ttings. Entry requirements: Successful completion of NVQ level 1 or level 1 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery. Possible next steps: Bench Joinery Diploma (level 3) or the appropriate Apprenticeship framework at level 3. Length of course (weeks): 36 (3 days per week) Hours per week: 15

Level 3 Diploma in Site Carpentry
(CON42085) You will study the subjects in the level 2 course at a more advanced level. Entry requirements: Successful completion of Site Carpentry Diploma (level 2). Possible next steps: Employment. Length of course (weeks): 36 (1 day per week) Hours per week: 10.5
