Entry Level 3 BTEC Award in Caring for


Children (EYE11506) This is designed for ESOL Entry learners to gain the basic knowledge about working with children and to prepare them for a level 1 course in caring for children. Entry requirements: College interview and assessment. Possible next steps: Level 1 Childcare courses. Length of course (weeks): 36 Hours per week: 14


CACHE Level 1 Diploma in Caring for


Children (EYE30564) This course is suitable for people who would like a career in working with children. You will undertake a mixture of practical and class-based work. Subjects could include physical activities for children, health and safety and learning through everyday experiences. Maths and English is an important part of the course. Entry requirements: GCSE English at grade E-F or above. Written assessment and an interview. Possible next steps: Level 2 Childcare courses. Length of course (weeks): 36 Hours per week: 15


Level 2 Certifi cate for the Children and


Young People’s Workforce (EYE10570) This qualifi cation provides you with the knowledge and understanding of child development and education necessary for working with children in a variety of job roles and settings. It prepares you to work in a supervised capacity Entry requirements: College interview and assessment, plus level 1 qualifi cation or equivalent. Possible next steps: Level 3 Diploma. Length of course (weeks): 36 Hours per week: 13


Level 2 Certifi cate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools


(EYE42346) The course will enable you to gain a valuable experience in a school. It gives you the skills and knowledge you need to take part in a range of classroom support activities. There is a practical assessment in the work setting. You will attend knowledge sessions one day a week and will be in a suitable school setting 3-4 days per week. This could be on a voluntary or paid basis. Entry requirements: College interview and assessment, plus level 1 qualifi cation or equivalent. Possible next steps: Level 3 Childcare courses.


Level 3 Diploma for the Children and


Young People’s Workforce (EYE10670) This course is a one-year programme which is designed to develop your skills and knowledge of working with children. The course incorporates a range of classroom activities and practical assessments by an assessor. The course will explore issues surrounding behaviour management, legal framework and safeguarding. There is a requirement to build a portfolio of evidence. Entry requirements: College interview and assessment, plus 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and maths or equivalent. Possible next steps: Successful completion of this level 3 course qualifi es you to become a responsible child care practitioner. It will enable you to progress onto the second year of the Extended Diploma, which can lead to HE / Foundation Degree courses. Length of course (weeks): 36 (15 hours per week)


Foundation Degree


in Early Years Childhood This course is designed for people working with young children in public, private, voluntary and independent childcare and education settings. It gives a higher-level qualifi cation and career development for people working as a child minder or in a group setting such as a nursery, kindergarten, pre-school, community crèche or children’s centre environment. You’ll learn about the importance of play, language and learning, symbolic representation, management in early years and more. The course also covers issues related to working with multi-lingual children. Entry requirements: Hold a relevant level 3 childcare qualifi cation or equivalent and have at least 2 years’ experience of working with children. Possible next steps: The fi nal year of your degree.
