Level 2 BTEC Diploma in Health and Entry Level BTEC Diploma in


Vocational Studies (CAR10356) This is a course for people who have no qualifi cations and are interested in a career in the health services or in a care setting. It gives an introduction to health and social care and improves language skills. It’s especially designed for people who speak English as a second language. After successful completion of the course, you will also get an ESOL and maths certifi cate. This course often appeals to mature students returning to learning. Entry requirements: There is a College assessment. Possible next steps: Health and Social Care level 1 course. Length of course (weeks): 36 Hours per week: 12.5


Level 1 Certifi cate Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children and


Young People’s Settings (CAR10358) This course is designed to develop your skills in the Health and Social Care sector. It provides specialised studies directly relevant to the health and care sector in which you may be working or intending to seek employment. You will develop a range of employability skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for success in working life. You will also study maths and English or ESOL and do a work experience placement. Entry requirements: An entry level qualifi cation and appropriate standard of English. There is also a College assessment. Possible next steps: Level 2 qualifi cations such as the BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care, Level 2 NVQs or employment as a care worker or support worker with a variety of client groups. Length of course (weeks): 36 Hours per week: 14

Social Care (CAR11468) This course develops level 2 health and social care skills and gives a basis for progressing to more advanced work-related qualifi cations. There are six modules: communication and rights, individual needs in health and social care, vocational experience, health and social care services, diet and health and lifespan development. The course runs three days a week for one year. You will also study maths and English or ESOL and do a work experience placement. Entry requirements: College assessment. Possible next steps: Level 3 qualifi cations such as the BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care or employment as a care worker or support worker with a variety of client groups. Length of course (weeks): 36 weeks Hours per week: 15


Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Health and


Social Care (CAR41954) This is a vocationally-related qualifi cation which covers the main themes of work in the sector and is equivalent to two AS Levels. You can also choose to take GCSE Science, English and Maths. Entry requirements: College assessment/merit at level 2. Possible next steps: Higher Education, when supported by other A Level or level 3 qualifi cations. Length of course (weeks): 36 Hours per week: 15


Edexcel BTEC Level 4 HNC / HND Diploma in Health and Social Care


(QCF) (CAR42306) This in-depth HNC course follows on from level 3 qualifi cations in health and social care and will prepare you for higher level roles in the sector. Theoretical aspects covered include sociological contexts, infl uencing factors, social policy and psychology in health and social care. More practical areas focus on health and safety, physiological principles, partnership working and empowering users. Entry requirements: Level 3 qualifi cation (merit as a minimum) from an associated course. Possible next steps: Successful completion of the HNC will enable you to enrol onto the HND course. You could also go straight to employment. Length of course (weeks): 36 for HNC and a further 36 for HND. Hours per week: 14
