Level 2 Diploma in Painting and
Decorating (CON11004) As a second year trainee in painting and decorating, you will learn the following: basic specialist decorative effects, hand tools and their uses, cleaning and maintenance, trade level painting and wallpapering techniques and about the materials that you will use. You will learn how to use portable power tools, how to work safely, the building team and how it works together and how to communicate and work effectively with others. Basic building methods and construction technology also form a part of this course. You will learn how to quantify materials required for the work you will be expected to do and how to safely move and store materials, as well as learn about employment rights and responsibilities. Entry requirements: Diploma level 1. Possible next steps: Level 3 Diploma, or the appropriate Apprenticeship framework at level 3. Length of course (weeks): 36 (3 days per week) Hours per week: 15
Level 3 Diploma in Painting and Level 1 Diploma in Painting and
Decorating (CON30148) You will learn about: hand tools and their maintenance, how to work safely and the building team and how it works together. You will also learn basic techniques in painting and decorating, how to use tools and materials correctly and have a good awareness of health and safety. You will also learn how to communicate and work effectively with others. Entry requirements: College interview. Possible next steps: Diploma in Painting and Decorating level 2 – or the NVQ2 if employed, or the appropriate Apprenticeship framework at level 2. Length of course (weeks): 36 (3 days per week) Hours per week: 15
Decorating (CON12176) You will further develop skills that you gained at level 2, studying new knowledge and skills in surface preparation, painting, paperhanging and basic specialist fi nishes at a higher level than the previous course. There are class- based technology and theory lessons. You will be working from height on access equipment and will come into contact with oil and water-based materials. You will need to have and wear correct PPE at all times. Entry requirements: Painting and Decorating Diploma (level 2) and a good command of English (GCSE A-E). Possible next steps: Employment or further construction qualifi cations. Length of course (weeks): 36 (3 days per week) Hours per week: 15
