Supporting you while you study: our promise to you


You’ll get loads of support to help you achieve your full potential. The support we offer you is briefl y highlighted here, but please do speak to us if you would like more details.


Additional Learning Support Approximately 12% of our students have disclosed a disability or additional learning support requirement; and we provide tailored support to each of them.


You’ll get practical support, information and advice to support you in succeeding on your course. If you are disabled and wish to fi nd out more about the services at the College, contact the confi dential Student Disability Advice Team via 020 7613 9000.


You’ll get one-to-one, small group or in-class support to help with your studies – especially if you are: • Physically impaired • Blind or partially sighted • Deaf or hard of hearing • Dyslexic, dyspraxic or dyscalculic • A person with learning diffi culties and/or disabilities • In need of additional language, or literacy and numeracy support


• In need of additional IT skills • In need of support whilst studying due to mental health issues or concerns


Make sure you tell us if you have a support need as soon as you enrol. We’ll make all reasonable adjustments that we can to help you succeed on your course – including specialist exam support where appropriate.


Student Advisers / Counsellors Our trained counsellors will help you with any problem or diffi culty you have. All students can receive free, confi dential and impartial advice on things like: fi nance, housing, health, immigration, benefi t claims, legal problems, sexual health, drugs, staying safe, personal / emotional concerns and other issues.


Key Skills On most courses you will work towards at least one key skill – usually English, Maths or IT. You will develop these skills through teaching which is related to your main subject. You will also be encouraged to develop information, literacy and research skills.

Feedback and tutorials For qualifi cation courses, you will have a named course / pastoral tutor and have regular tutorial sessions. Some will be as a class and others will be on a one-to-one basis. You’ll receive regular feedback regarding your progress, attendance and punctuality. Your tutor will help you to develop your Individual Learning Plan (ILP) where you set yourself targets which help you to achieve your goal of successfully completing your course and progressing to your next step.


Linking you to work/higher study Our links with major employers and agencies puts you in a strong position to get a great job after your studies. Our Careers and Employment Advisers offer free, confi dential and impartial advice and support on education, training and employment opportunities. The team will also provide you with motivational support and help with setting and achieving your career goals.


Study support from the Resource-


Based-Learning team We provide you with a wide range of study support for your course, including: • Books, magazines and academic journals, both paper and online


• Knowledgeable staff who will assist you in developing your research skills


• A range of study spaces- including silent study • Support with IT queries and the use of the VLE • Mobile devices such as iPads • Opportunities to develop your English and Maths skills through individual support in a Skills Centre, or through Resourced Based Learning with your class.


Student Activities Groups of students, or staff and students, can bid for funds to subsidise activities. We have a dedicated enrichment team who will organise a range of activities e.g. sports programmes, healthy and cultural events, trips (Alton Towers, day trips to France) and much more.


Student Leadership There are plenty of opportunities for you to become involved in the College. We have a Student Association elected by students to lead on activities and events which improve students’ experience. You can also become involved as a Class Leader and represent the views and interests of you fellow classmates.
