AAT Level 2 Certifi cate in Accounting


Foundation (BUS40171 evening) This course is ideal for people who have little or no knowledge of accounting transactions. It covers a range of topics to help you develop skills for the workplace. As with all NVQ courses, you will need to produce a portfolio of work evidencing your competence. To support this process, regular ongoing assessments take place. Topics include: recording income and receipts, making and recording payments, supplying information, preparing ledger and trial balance, IT skills, offi ce skills and health and safety. Entry requirements: College interview and assessment – but you should have a detailed knowledge of all areas of bookkeeping. Possible next steps: AAT Accounts Intermediate level or employment. Length of course (weeks): 36 Hours per week: 5


AAT Levels 2 and 3 Certifi cate / Diploma in Accounting


(BUS30117 daytime) This qualifi cation has been designed for people working or wanting to work in accounting. It will start to develop your skills in double entry bookkeeping and give you an understanding of management and administrative processes. To achieve the award you must complete 13 mandatory units: recording income and receipts (skills test), making and recording payments (skills test), preparing ledger balances and an initial trial balance (skills test and exam), supplying information for management control (skills test), working with computers (skills test), contributing to the maintenance of a healthy, safe and productive working environment (skills test) and achieving personal effectiveness (skills test). You will also learn how to use manual and computerised accounting systems and to work with the purchase ledger, sales ledger and general ledger. Assessment is through portfolio, skills tests and examinations. Day or evening options are available. Entry requirements: Successful completion of level 1 bookkeeping and/or work experience in the area of accountancy. There is also a College interview and assessment. Possible next steps: Accounts Technician AAT (NVQ level 4). Length of course (weeks): 36 Hours per week: 16
