Seniors Christmas Party In the Lodge Upminster 29-Nov-2011

T

he Old Folks Christmas Party

2011 Tuesday 29th November dawned a bright, windy, mild day, the outlook much the same with the possibility of rain later. A great sigh of relief could be heard after last year’s disaster when the whole event had to be cancelled at the last minute following 100m of snow falling overnight! 93 Guests had accepted our invitation to attend West Lodge and join us for the annual Old Folks Christmas Party, needless to say over the last few days a number had fallen out due to ill health etc., and some substitutes found eventually meant that some 90 guests attended. Each year the Club’s Members make a great effort and transport the old folk to and from their homes. Thanks to Jim a number of guests are collected from Bruns- wick Court by Upminster Taxi’s at no cost to us for which we are very grateful.

smooth delivery, handled expertly by David Bull and Lew. Thanks to Jan and Eileen Bragg - who staff the cloak- room – and our guests are met by Norman who acts as our Maître D assisted by Geoff and David Goodhill welcom- ing them on arrival with sherry or fruit drink and seating them hopefully with friends and acquaintances. Once all are seated the meal is served by Rotarians and their helpers (mainly wives) with the assistance of the West Lodge staff, a traditional Christmas meal with all the trimmings and a glass or two of wine are served.
