The leader of Hornchurch & Upminster Rotary Club, President George Larkey said, after he had completed the walk with his family and fellow Rotarians: “The Club is delighted that the Mayor and his Consort are able to fit our Walk into their very busy schedule – and were able to complete part of the course. I am also very pleased that the weather was so kind to us and so many walkers – including those from as far away as Grays and Chigwell turned out to support the Club and St Francis Hospice. It was an excellent walk and we were delighted to go through parts of our Borough of Havering which we seldom see.”
Rtn. Brian Taffs, organiser of Hornchurch & Upminster Rotary Club's Annual Sponsored Walk in aid of St Francis Hospice said at the end of the day, “I am very pleased with the support that the Rotary Club received from all our walkers, which will ensure that we are able to make a generous donation to St Francis Hospice.”
Dick Palmer, PR Representative of the Hornchurch & Upminster Rotary Club said: “We were delighted at the support that the Rotary Club received from our walkers - over 55 members of the public and Rotarians, plus their friends and families registering and completing the full walk centred around the Hornchurch Country Park and along the course of the pretty Ingrebourne
River. In all, the Sponsored Walk was a wonderful combination of fresh air, delightful countryside and the 'feel-good' factor of raising money to support our major charity, St Francis Hospice.”
Clare Campbell, the Hospice Pub- lic Relations Executive, said: "I hope that everyone who took part in the walk enjoyed themselves.”
The Hospice would like to thank the Hornchurch & Upminster Rotary Club, Havering Mayor and Mayoress and walkers for their support. “We depend on the generosity of our local community to help us raise the £7.2 million required this year alone to provide our specialist care, free to people affected by life-limiting illness when they need it."
