Presentation at our Rotary Meeting On 17-Nov-2011 to
Pam Court, the CEO of St Francis Hospice
around Langdon Hill and the Nature Reserve. unfortunately support fell away and we felt that perhaps it was too far out for some people to travel so this year we decided to come home. On one of the very earliest walks we had started from Upminster Recreation ground and included part of the Ingrebourne Valley and

Sponsored Walk 2011 O
n the 17 November 2011 at the Club Lunch meeting the money
raised by this year’s sponsored walk (2011) was presented to Pam Court, the CEO of St Francis Hospice, the nominated charity. The final figure was £5,165.92, made up from sponsorship raised by the walkers, money collected by Paul Freedman, and a Tax rebate from last year’s walk together with Barclay’s Bank who doubled up Peter Fulham’s sponsorship money.
E
ach year Tony and I try to present a new route for the walk which we
feel makes the event more interesting, remembering that many of our supporters return each year wishing to support St Francis Hospice, traditionally the nominated charity. The route last year was in an area that both of us knew well from the old sponsored ride days,
it seemed time to revisit this area again. T
he development of the Hornchurch Country Park and the opening up
of the Ingrebourne Valley as a nature reserve offered the opportunity for a first class local route; Tony explored the Country Park and proposed we follow the line of the river from Upminster. A starting point was available with all the necessary facilities, parking, toilets and adjoining the river, thanks to the 1st Upminster Scout Group whose Headquarters is in Brookdale Avenue Upminster. I was able to persuade them to support us - being Group Chairman may have helped.
It also appealed to us
hoping to involve the boy’s in the Group, their parents and friends. We were fortunate to have the support of Haverings Mayor Melvin Wallace, who started the walk and accompanied us for the first couple of miles; he was particularly keen to help as St Francis Hospice is his chosen Charity during his year in office.
