fter the first session we had the afternoon to ourselves and Janet

and I toddled off to the local locks where we found ourselves in a ‘time lock’. Strolling about the village were soldiers and civilians dressed in the clothes of 1942. It was like being on a film set and was great fun. The Saturday Night Dinner and Dance with the Rotary Band “Wheelz” was a great success and that meant another late night.

fter breakfast Janet and I had to leave as we had to attend a 50th.

birthday lunch for my Godson back in London. I did, however, make up for it by attending the 3rd. session a week later at the 5-Lakes Centre near Maldon, with Norman, Geoff and guess who-yes Mr Rotary Brian Taffs.

have said it before but it is worth repeating “If you haven’t been to a

conference, give it a go. You may be pleasantly surprised.” Next year’s

conference will have a slightly different format. As an experiment to see if we can get younger, working members of Rotary with young families to attend there will be no formal Friday evening activity, and members can arrive on the Saturday morning. There will then be two sessions in one day, and there will not be a free Saturday afternoon. This means that if you wish, you only have stay for one night. In the evening there will be a gala fancy Dress Dinner The final session will be after breakfast on the Sunday, and the conference finishes at 1pm.

Give it some thought! T

o top it all, on the Saturday be- tween the two weekends Janet and

I attended a Charity Dinner with our esteemed publisher Colin and the lovely Carol and guess who-Yes- Brian and Jan.

W hat a wonderful two weeks. 27
