Visit to Canterbury by our club and our twin club from
Germany (Hermeskeil Hunsruch) F F
or the past two years the two weekends covering
the end of September and the beginning of October have been right high in the rankings as far as Rotary Events go.
rom the 16th to the 18th. of September a large
contingent of club members and their spouses travelled to Canterbury to meet up with a group of Rotarians and their spouses from our twin club of Hermeskeil Hunsruck. Last year we met in Berlin and although we had a good time we were prevented from quality fellowship time due to our late arrival due to a six hour delay at Luton airport.

his year we were all staying at the
same hotel, and due to the fact that our friends drove from Germany and arrived at Dover on the ferry, leaving them with a short drive to Canterbury, we all arrived at roughly the same time.
rom the moment we met it was
obvious that all concerned were determined to have a good time and the ensuing weekend organised by David Fell, Eddie Truman and John Kent - made sure we did.

fter settling in to our rooms most of the group walked
from the hotel to the walled city of Canterbury and enjoyed an informative and interesting tour of the town before splitting up into small groups to dine at a restaurant of our choice. Upon returning to the hotel we indulged in some more liquid refreshment, and some more fellowship time.

fter breakfast the next morning we boarded a
coach which took us the short distance to the cathedral where a tour of the historic building had been organised. Once again this proved to be a most enjoyable and informative part of the weekend. The highlight of the tour for me was the informal mini tour and descriptions of some of the stained glass windows. Due to a church meeting being chaired by the Archbishop an in-depth tour of the cathedral was not possible, although the parts that were available to us had more than enough treasures and places of interest to keep us going.
