Message from your President s
T
I write this message in the last days of November with the sun shining it
is difficult to realise that Christmas is less than a month away. This time last year we were well wrapped up and can- celling functions daily as we struggled to cope with the early fall of snow. We may not have been able to do much but at least it felt like Christmas.

espite the unseasonably mild weather we have already started
on our festive events, the Hornchurch Christmas Cracker, a new date in our calendar, and the Old Folks Party, both of which were most enjoyable and successful.
hristmas for us Rotarians means that we are in for a busy time but
Christmas also means that we are halfway through the Rotary Year and to quote a much used phrase, “Where has the time gone?”
M
y year began in a flurry of activity which shows no signs of
stopping. I began by attending each of the club committee meetings to hear and see first hand the programmes that would propel the club forward. It was most reassuring for me to see that all the groups were focussed on continuing the good work of previous years.
hese were followed by the more social and physical activities such
as the BBQ and Bowls ,the Rotary Walk, the Weekend in Canterbury with our friends from Hermeskeil Hunsruck , the District Conference (both parts), the wine tasting, the Remembrance Parade, the aforementioned Hornchurch Christmas Cracker and the Old People’s Party and a host of other Rotary related activities all of which I enjoyed greatly .I was told many times last year, in the run up to the hand over dinner, that I would enjoy my year in office and so far this has proved to be the case and more.

ll of this happened in conjunction with the activities that Janet, as
President of the Inner Wheel of Havering, has organised, and of course the normal things we do as we get on with the daily routines and worries that involve family and work.
s you are reading this we will have started the Christmas
collection and other festive activities and hopefully be on our way to another record year as we move into Olympic Year 2012.
s we move into the festive season I should like to take this
opportunity to thank Janet, my family and all the members of the club and their partners for their support and I send to you all, from Janet and myself, Christmas Greetings and Best Wishes for a Healthy and Happy New Year.
