Project Focus: Newport Ffynnon

Melanie tells us about how she is getting her life back on track with the help of her support worker at the Ffynnon Project. Melanie's Story

My name is Melanie, my partners name is Nathan and we have a 6 month old son who we love very much. Both Nathan and I are ex- heroin users. I used for 16 years but when I found out I was pregnant I needed to get clean but of course this was going to be very hard to do.

Many services have helped me get through the hard times, including Gwalia's Ffynnon Project. With the help of a very special lady called Emma I have become independent, in control and at ease with my life and family. Emma is my support worker and we have a really good bond, she helps me overcome all the obstacles that get in my way. We work together very well and she is so on my level.

With the help of agencies like My story, my life

Hello, my name is Michael. In the past I have been a heavy drinker and always got in trouble with the police because of my relationship with alcohol. I started to lose contact with my family and my relationships began to break down. I moved around quite a lot and never felt very settled.

Since working with the Ffynnon project in Newport I now have my own tenancy with Newport City Homes. I feel very settled in my flat and at the moment I am decorating it, it is a place that I can call home. With the help of my support worker I am able to manage my debts and pay my bills regularly when in the past I wouldn't even open my mail.

Gwalia, Nathan and I are now clean. I have a 3 bedroom house and am due to have my son home permanently in a few weeks.

Myself and Nathan have never been happier and are so pleased with our progress and looking forward to our future as a family.
