Our Very Own Ground Force
On Thursday 24th February Daniel and Christopher from Caersalem House visited a gardening project at the Arts Factory, Ferndale.
The garden contains a polytunnel for growing flowers, fruit and vegetables, but has been abandoned for a few years now. Fortunately they recently received a grant from Cleaner Greener Communities to regenerate the area and
already have lots of volunteers working there. They were more than happy to have two more willing volunteers in Chris and Dan.
The work will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and Chris and Dan cant wait to get their hands dirty and help get the project up and running.
Client focus: Raymond's Progress
Raymond tells us how he is overcoming his personal issues with the support of the Caerphilly Ffynnon Project.
My name is Raymond and I have been receiving support for 16 months as I was very stressed and depressed over financial and personal issues and struggled with day to day activities. It has taken a long time to get things resolved and at times I didn’t believe I was going to reach my goal but with support I made it, and it was worth waiting for.
I had over £13,000 of debt which with support has now been cleared. Through my worries and depression I began drinking heavily and was unable to manage my day to day activities which resulted in me being hospitalised due to severe alcohol abuse. I nearly died.
Since coming out of hospital I have not had an alcoholic drink for 14 weeks! At times I still struggle to turn down a drink and socialise alcohol free at my local pub.
Since I have stopped drinking I have started swimming, weight training and regular exercise to regain my strength and I’m now eating healthily.
I am most thankful for the support from my Support Worker, Jason Tatton and I feel the support received from the Caerphilly Ffynnon Project has been a success for me.
