Gwalia & Me
Caersalem Cyclists Brave the Elements!
It was a typical cold and wet February day. Decisions needed to be made; was the cycling trip going to go ahead despite the conditions?

But motivation was at hand “It may be wet but we’re not made of sugar!”.
This inspired us and we set off to ride the iron horse at “Barry Sidings” in the old mining village of Trehafod, just outside the famous market town of Pontypridd.
On arrival at Trehafod station we had a mile and a half trek to Barry Sidings but the mood was still buoyant. When we got to the cycling centre we were greeted by some locals:
“Dew Butt, never thought we’d see any body here today, come in, have a cup of cha and warm your cockles up!”.
After a long chat and plenty of banter it was time to complete the mission; a ten mile mountain bike ride around the Rhondda Valleys. Daniel and I decided on the two wheel version but Chris opted for the more stable tricycle.

Nerves tingling, we set off to explore the valleys with our experienced cycle club leader. The terrain was both physically and mentally tough but it was worth it for the spectacular views. We arrived at base camp with a rapturous welcome from the locals who served the local delicacy, the dish of the day… a Cornish pasty!
It was time to leave and we said our goodbyes, back on the bike and back to Caersalem House for a well earned rest and shower.
Now to plan for the next adventure… Watch this space!
