Travelling & Staying Safe

With Summer fast approaching this Focus On has some useful information about travelling and staying safe. Whether you’re going somewhere far away or staying close to home, being organised is key to making sure things go smoothly.

Travelling Tips:

• Ask someone you trust to keep an eye on your house or pets.

• Remember to cancel any services like milk delivery and pay any bills.

• Tell your bank when and where you’re going.

• Make photocopies of any important documents, such as your passport.

• If you’re travelling abroad, get health information from your doctor.

• Invest in a special lightweight travel bag so that your valuables are held in view while you walk.

• If you are flying always check: The maximum baggage weight allowed by the airline. What you are allowed to carry in your main luggage. For example, airlines only allow small amounts of liquid (like shampoo) in your hand luggage.

• Airlines will often require that you check in online and to print out your boarding pass before travelling.

• Always allow a generous amount of time to travel to the airport and pass through security.

16 Be Sun Smart!

If you will be basking in the sun this Summer, please stay safe and be aware of the risks involved of prolonged exposure to the sun.

•Use Sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher and reapply regularly.

•Take regular breaks in the shade between 11am-3pm, when the sun is at its strongest.

•If you know you’re going to be out in the sun, cover up with a T-shirt, sunglasses and hat.

•Take extra care with children as their skin can be especially sensitive
