Client Focus: Video Making & Editing


My interest in film making goes back to September 1990 when I joined a performing arts course in Margam, Port Talbot where I learnt about creative writing and everything in the arts.

Over the following 5 years I kept lots of stories and then in 1998, I wanted to have a go at animating my stories. I bought a little camcorder and went from there.


The first animation I made was 7 minutes long and about a squirrel living in a park in Neath, which is where I was living at the time.


I soon started work on more varied animations. I tried creating a hand- drawn children’s animation for TV called ‘The Perils of Mothman’.


Then I decided that I wanted to try puppet films, but wanted them to be really unique so I began to collect wooden mannequins like the ones you see in shop windows. I painted and created my own characters out of them. From then onwards I have been doing puppet animations using painted wooden figures.


The films take a long time to make which is why it has taken so long to get to film number 8. The opportunity arose early this year to go on a film editing course through Gwalia Care and Support. It’s my first film editing course as I have always had a big fear of computers. I have the feeling its now or never and I want to make the most of the opportunity.


My experience of the film editing course I have gained an understanding of how to use the computer for my work and how to edit. It has taken away the fear of getting to grips with ever changing technology. The tutors on the course have been very helpful, they taught me to do things myself but were on hand to help when I got
