ers in a friendly and cheerful manner,
you can easily survive (and even enjoy!)
a trip out. Have you ever heard of a res-
taurant that doesn’t serve at least one of
the categories of fruits, vegetables, fish
or meat?
• As for where to eat, the internet is a
very useful tool for identifying and locat-
ing restaurants that accommodate gluten
free diets. Many restaurants today are
aware of gluten issues and have gluten
free items. Burton’s Grill at Evergreen
Walk in South Windsor, like all the Bur-
ton's restaurants, is one such establish-
ment. To receive a gluten free menu, just
ask for it. Furthermore, the number of
gluten free restaurants and even grocery
aisles and bakeries is constantly expand-
ing as awareness grows around Celiac.
One good bakery choice is Dee’s One
Smart Cookie in Glastonbury.
There are a number of very helpful
resources available to assist you in navi-
gating the gluten free lifestyle. To begin,
check out: The Gluten Free Bible-Jax
Peters Lowell, Gluten Free Girl-Shauna
James Ahera, Gluten Free Gourmet-Bet-
ty Hagman, www.glutenfreeliving.com,

Finally, as in all other aspects of life,
remember that your attitude is critical
to your health. As you continue to learn
more about the disease and yourself, and
manage both your health and your life,
you’ll realize that the shift from fear to
confidence has been a powerful journey
and that through the adventure you’ve
come to appreciate not only your new
eating habits, but also your self reliance
along the way.
A gluten free life is not as difficult
as it sounds. Once you say goodbye to
gluten you’ll surprised at how easy it is
to say hello to “food that you love and
that loves you back.”
