60-minute first clip and 20 minutes allowed for top

lines and final preparation. Each calf was then assessed as they left the marquee and comments given on each job to the clipper.

Stuart Ley and Chris Green oversaw the washing and judged both the end result, but also how competitors went about the task during the time allocated to washing.

Once all of the A team calves were ready for the ring, handlers headed to the show ring where James Hudson took centre stage to judge the showmanship. This was no easy task with the standard extremely high he had some difficult decisions to make and certainly put them through their paces.

The final stage of the Field to Foto requires the team of five to work together to get the best picture of their calf in an allocated seven minutes. Leading cattle photographer Lucinda Morgan had the task of scoring them on their team work combined with the final picture. During the presentation ceremony Northern Ireland swept the board in clipping with Mark Henry claiming the National Clipping Competition, having won the B team clipping last year. Meanwhile in the B teams it was John McLean who impressed the judges. For the fourth consecutive year Northern Ireland triumphed in the Field to Foto. Their team was Mark Henry clipping, assisted by Lindsay Fleming holding, Lyndon Fleming and Heather Martin washed while Leiza Montgomery did the showmanship. Winning the B section was Border and Lakeland’s team of William Horsley clipping, Philip Potts holding, Tom Wilson and Abigail Fisher washing with Eleanor Fisher handling.

The South East club this year picked up a special award for overall team spirit throughout the weekend with their prize kindly donated by the Laura Percy Trust Fund in memory of the late Laura Percy who was a keen Devon Young Breeder.

Thanks must also go to the Cooke family from Sutton Lucy Holsteins for all their hard work in hosting the stock judging and the 12 animals forward for judging were certainly a credit to the herd and of course Denis Smith for a super visit round his Oakroyal herd. Special thanks to the Ventonian, Hoops and Curscombe herds for providing and training 32 calves for the Field to Foto. And of course final thanks and congratulations must go to the Devon Club, particularly Nicky Bishop and Rosie Bennett for all of their organising in what was another fantastic weekend rally. Every year the standard of competition and enthusiasm grows and it confirms the success of the HYB movement. South and Wiltshire are looking forward to welcoming you next year to the weekend rally on the 14th to 16th of August 2015.
