SOUTH AND WILTSHIRE Holstein South and Wiltshire’s annual herd competition was held over three warm days in July 2014 and sponsored by Semex, Genus and Greenslade Taylor Hunt. The competition was organised by Nicci Chamberlin who also planned the routes for drivers, Lucy Howe, Darryn Forsey and herself.

Judging the competition was David Norman from the Ciderhouse herd, who commented: “It was a hard task judging as all of the entries across the fifteen herds were of a consistent high standard. I thoroughly enjoyed the three days which included a visit to the Isle of Wight to judge the Bradley family’s Crockers herd.” The presentation evening was held at Little Langford Farm, Salisbury, by kind permission of Nick and Topsy Helyer, with 43 members attending. This is a tenanted farm owned by the Wilton Estate and the home of the Clampit herd with 240 cows which are housed all year round. Before the presentations members enjoyed viewing the herd and also looking at some of the older buildings which are still in use.

Supper was served by Caroline Huins and family in aid of the HYB and a raffle was also held. Dave Norman presented the awards with Derek Biss presenting the GTH sponsored prizes. After the presentations John Stratton (Semex),Lucy Howe(Genus) and Nicci Chamberlin were thanked for their help and tokens of gratitude were presented to Dave Norman, Nick and Topsy Helyer, Nicci Chamberlin and Darryn Forsey by Elizabeth Walker.
