making a top of 1550gns for a Shottle daughter out of an Ex classified dam from the Gwennie family. Averages: 50 cows £1922.55, 18 calved heifers £2390.50, 12 served heifers £1942.50, 25 maiden heifers £1134, one bull £1365 (Norton and Brooksbank).


Westonhall Dispersal The Westonhall herd dispersal for F I Bevan and Sons, Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire, saw a top price of 1950gns. The sale leader was the third calved Kelstein Dynasty daughter Westonhall Dynasty Chloe 5. Her dam is Westonhall Lookout Chloe 2, sired by Moet Lookout she gave 9233kg at 3.36%bf and 3.28%p in her third lactation. She sold to D P Rees, Crickhowell, Breconshire.


Next best at 1850gns was another Dynasty daughter, Westonhall Dynasty Chloe 4. She gave 6910kg at 4.06%bf and 3.29%p as a heifer and is out of a Shaker sired maternal sister to the top price cow. She sold to H E and J A Cowles and Son, Monmouth.


Served heifers sold to 1620gns for a late August calving daughter of Bradash Tournament. While yearling heifers hit a top of 920gns on three occasions for daughters of Coop Oman Loydie, with heifer calves by him making 420gns. Welsh buyers dominated proceedings with 60% of the cattle finding new homes in the principality. Averages: 62 cows and milking heifers £1477.11, (including 3 heifer calves at £423.50), 12 served heifers £1,213.63, 14 bulling heifers £907.50 (Gwilym Richards and Co).

Sells to £2620 Top price at Lancaster’s August Sale was £2620


for Lordsplain Steady Brandy from David Martin. Tapped out by judge Matthew Harper as pre-sale champion she is by Stantons Steady and out of two generations of Very Good or Excellent dams with her dam an Alpag Iron Tempting daughter. Second top at £2300 was Witherslack Shottle Lola from Strickland Hill Farming. This two year old heifer is out of a homebred dam by Buckeye. Alandrew Winners Melda from G and A E Smith is an October 2011-born Gillette Winners daughter out of a dam by Charpentier Margot. She sold away at £2250.


Just behind that at £2220 was the July calved Stardale Savard Millie from James Burrow. Sired by Savard she is out of a VG86 classified Talent daughter who is backed by a further four generations of Very Good or Excellent dams. Making £2200 was W and G Cornthwaite’s Garsby Ross Sylvia 2, a July calved Alta Ross daughter. Her dam is by Sunspark Destiny that classified GP84 as a heifer with six generations of dams scored in the top two grades behind her.


Fresh calved cows sold to £2080 for the reserve champion Witherslack G Jordan Rose from Stickland Hill Farming. This second calved Gillette Jordan gave 9123kg at 3.69%bf and 3.09%p and sold one week fresh giving 46 litres. Averages: Cows in milk £1485, heifers in milk £1810 (North West Auctions).


3000gns top at Sedgemoor Auction


for Panda Challanger The Top 10% and Seasonality Sale at Sedgemoor Auction Centre saw a top price of 3000gns for Westwood Farms’ July 2013-born bull Panda Challanger.


Challenger is the only son in Europe from the VG88 classified show winning dam Ms Chastity Domain Chaya who herself is out of Regancrest S Chassity. Spirited bidding ensued with the final bid over the telephone, from eventual purchasers Jimmy and Andrew Hull, Lancashire, for their Fortland herd. Leading trade for fresh calved heifers at 2280gns was Dorset Windbrook Caroline from the South West Herd Competition 2014 winners Dimond Farming Limited. This December 2011-born Windbrook heifer is out of a dam by Hidden View Best with three generations of Excellent dams behind her.


Max Davies had the top priced cow at 2080gns with the GP83 scored second calver Davlea Melody Lulu 2. As a heifer this Moet Melody daughter gave 10,044kg at 3.53%bf and 2.94%p. Lamb Molton Magpie 13 from R T Cox then traded at 2020gns. Sired by the Bolton son Loford Molton he is out of a Hayden sired dam that scored GP84 as a heifer.


In-calf heifers sold up to 1960gns for Messrs Morris’ Cloverfields Altarush Winkle. This one is a May 2012-born Willem’s Hoeve Altarush daughter. Top price for bulling heifers was 1150gns twice, first was Pitchbury Azure Norma from Winscombe, North Somerset. This September 2012-born Cogent Azure daughter is out of a dam by Laurelhill Jurasic.


Then making the same money was Pitchbury Desmond Bess, the same age as the previous heifer she is by Cogent Desmond and out of an ABS Neverland sired dam. Averages: cows £1987, heifers £2025, bulls £1542, in-calf heifers £1530, bulling heifers £1047 (Greenslade Taylor Hunt).


Brisk trade at Wright Marshall’s Mid Month Sale At Wright Marshall’s Mid Month Sale in August more than a third sold for £2000 or more with quality cattle forward in abundance. The sale topped at £2650 for Burnbrae Gabor Ella from Jack and Barclay Taylor, Myddle, Shrewsbury. Sired by Willow Marsh CC Gabor she sold to D and H E Colclough and Son,
