As many of you know, Holstein UK, CIS and CDI are wholly owned farmer organisations operating with the aim of helping you improve your herds’ performance and, therefore, profi t. The Journal takes a look at what these services, together, can offer you
How can CIS
work for you? In modern dairy farming information is paramount to
productivity and the unique way CIS operates means the information provided is the most valuable you can access. Milk recording is central to CIS, but it is just one link in the chain. Because all cow and herd data is held within CDI. Additional benefi ts are available for all breeds, particularly those that are pedigree registered. Alongside the all important yield fi gures CIS can also provide data on a number of key performance indicators, including fertility, health, conformation and cow ancestry.
Combining all this essential data in one place CIS’ ‘Your Herd’ program allows you to make vital management decisions easily.
Milk recording and Cell Count services are available as either stand alone or combined services allowing you to chose the service best suited to you. Both Milk Recording and Cell Count Checking with CIS give you a valuable insight in to which cows and families are delivering milk in your tank at the same time as identifying cows with high somatic cell counts easily and simply before they become problem cows.
Combining milk recording or cell count services with a pedigree package can signifi cantly enhance the data available to you, tying key performance data with breeding information to provide a complete overview of your herd.
Maximising Profi ts CIS’ Your Herd program provides a simple way to give you both a complete overview of the herd and allow you to drill down in to individual cow’s data to interrogate the performance of every individual in the herd. It will also give accurate predictions of future production, helping you plan cash fl ows and make informed business decisions. Using the Day2Day function in ‘Your Herd’ allows you to draw up action lists for key tasks, including; cows due to oestrous, cows due for fi rst service, cows ready to PD, cows not in calf, cows due to calve and cows ready to dry off. Routine milk recorded samples can also be tested for Johne’s, BVD, Lepto, IBR or even pregnancy. This can be done either on an adhoc basis or under a monitoring scheme giving you maximum information, with minimum cost and hassle.
