This year’s Royal Welsh Show saw a repeat win for the Davies family’s Castellhyfryd Spirte Rosina, as Katie Davidson reports

olsteins were very much to the fore in the interbreed championships at the Royal Welsh Show with a clean sweep in the overall, heifer, pairs and team of five championships. Securing the honours in the overall interbreed championship was Whitland- based Simon and Sian Davies’ Castellhyfryd Spirte Rosina. This is the second interbreed success at the Royal Welsh for Rosina who took the title back in 2011 and has since been champion and reserve interbreed at the Dairy Event 2011, champion at the Royal Welsh 2012 and reserve champion at the Livestock Event 2014. Judge James Warren, Penzance, commented: “The champion is outstanding. She is angular without compromising on dairy strength, she is spacious with a deep and open rib and has a well

attached high, wide rear udder. She also looks great on the move.”
This Ex95 classified fourth calver was fresh at the end of February and on the day was giving 65kg a day with a lifetime production to date of 65 tonnes. Her dam is the VG89 scored September Storm daughter Castellhyfryd Sep Storm Rosina, one of 10 generations of VG or Ex scored dams. In the interbreed heifer championship it
