has so much quality with a tremendous udder and very correct feet and legs,” he said.

In reserve was David Wright’s Mikali Seaver D Erle, a VG89 scored senior two year old by Seaver and out of Mikali Damion Erle. She was purchased for 2500gns at the Genetic Elite Sale as a calf and was fi rst senior two year old at UK Dairy Expo in March. “The reserve champion was an outstanding heifer with a super mammary,” commented Niels.

Six year old Millie Wardle’s Milliedale Dusk Rhapsody stood

honourable mention. This VG88 junior three year old calved in March and is giving 40kg. She is out of the successful show cow Peak Goldwyn Rhapsody and herself was champion at Leek Show and second at the Great Yorkshire this year.

Towards the end of the afternoon ringsiders were blown away by a ring full to capacity of teams of four cows from each of the nine clubs. Niels helped build the anticipation by eliminating teams from the ring, leaving just his chosen three teams for a fi nal inspection. Taking top honours in this class were the Scotland South team of Meiklefi rth Plaid Lutske from David Yates, Parkend Sanchez Tamara from Brian Weatherup, Dilandy Debonair Tabitha Red from Sheila Yates and Caroline Lawrie and Hugh Neilson’s Netherlea Jayz May.

In other classes Richaven Sid Squaw 3 from Richard Bown stood top of a spectacular intermediate two year old class of 20 heifers. This July calved Sid daughter is out of the Ex96 classifi ed Richaven Raider Squaw.

Meanwhile, the four year old class was won by Sahara Goldwyn Sara 2 from Sahara Holsteins. She calved in May and is giving 50kg a day, she stood second at the Royal Welsh Show in July.

Retiring president Jimmy Wilson and wife Angela had the task of judging the best promotional stand from each Club. The focus for this award was the best presented stand in the cattle lines with emphasis on the most effective marketing of the Club and what they have to offer. Entries were incredibly strong across the board, but the overall winners were Holstein South Wales. Commenting on this particular area of the show, Carl Smith, Show Director said: “The focus on Clubs, rather than individual exhibitors certainly drew many positives from exhibitors. I have had many comments on how refreshing it was to see new faces in the show ring and it was encouraging to see more experienced show goers sharing their experience with the rest of the team. I am delighted with the success and feedback we have had from the fi rst UK Dairy Day.”
