INAUGURAL EVENT HAILED AS HUGE SUCCESS
UK Dairy Day saw a spectacular show of Holstein cattle with ringsiders commenting on an electric atmosphere throughout the course of the judging, as Katie Davidson reports
T
he fi rst UK Dairy Day at The International Centre, Telford, had exhibitors and ringsiders remarking that this was the best show of Holsteins seen for many years at National level, with just shy of 100 cattle, all in milk, forward for judge Niels Erik Haahr to cast his expert eye over.
Clinching the championship honours was Bilsrow Gibson Ada from David, Sheila and James Tomlinson. She stood top of the line in an outstanding class of 13 mature cows, a class which emphasised the longevity in the breed.
Fresh in May with her fi fth calf and her fi rst heifer, she produced 13,612kg at 5.13%bf and 3.19%p in
her last lactation and is currently giving 62kg a day.
Classifi ed Ex96, this Silky Gibson daughter is out of the VG89 scored Bilsrow Design Ada. She was champion this summer at Garstang Show.
Judge Niels Erik Haahr from Tirsvad-Anderstrup Holsteins described her as: “An outstanding cow, particularly for having fi ve calves. She is so well balanced with dairy quality from nose to tail and a very special mammary system and feet and legs for a mature
