GETTING TO KNOW OUR STAFF... JACKIE CLARK

How long have you worked for the society?

I started working for the British Friesian Cattle Society of GB and Ireland on 1 August 1988 and to date have been employed by the Society at Scotsbridge House under its changing names for 26 years, having joined as a post room junior. I progressed to a role in the Admin Department and soon after that an opportunity arose in the PR department which involved the YMA (now HYB).

I stayed in this role for a number of years, before changing position to TCS Administrator and 15 years or so later I am still here.

What does your role involve? I manage and co-ordinate office operations, procedures and provide

support to the classification team and members. My main responsibilities include allocation of work and sending appointments to about 2200 classifying members for nine breeds.

How have things changed over the years? Procedures have changed greatly. Gone are the days of sticking pins in the massive maps of the UK to allocate work to the classifiers. I remember back in the day when the classifiers used to score animals on paper! Now with the hand held data capture, work is sent out and returned via the touch of a button making completed herds latest classifications live on the system within 15 minutes of the classifier exporting the data back to Holstein UK.

What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time my partner Haylee and family and I organise charity events throughout the year, including Halloween and Valentines Balls. We have raised an incredible amount of money for some worthy charities that are close to our hearts, including Macmillan Cancer Support, VICTA (Visually Impaired Children Taking Action) and Michael Sobell House. I love listening to a wide variety of music, love going to restaurants and I have been known to enjoy the odd tipple!

How well do you get on with your boss? Michael Parkinson. Well what can I say? He is a great boss, friend, communicator and a good listener. I love that he has faith in me to manage the organisation and co-ordination of the classification department, it means a lot to me and I hope we have many more years working together.
