Organic change The Palace Spa works hard to ensure it keeps pace with the changing demands of its clients. “Our guests like to try something different,” explains Tedino. “Last winter, for example, our lymphatic drainage massage was very popular, but this year guests are increasingly looking for natural and organic treatments.” As part of this evolution and in keeping with its dedication to authentic Swiss spa experiences, in 2012 the Palace Spa introduced a range of organic skincare products and treatments from Jardin des Monts. From a Swiss chalet in the Pays-d’Enhaut valley, just 25km from the Gstaad Palace, professional horticulturists Charlotte Landolt and Laetitia Jacot create Jardin des Monts’ skincare range from a variety of locally sourced ingredients that are picked by hand and processed using traditional Swiss methods. Landolt and Jacot collaborated with the Palace Spa for 12 months to develop the exclusive Jardin des Monts Energising Massage. Lasting 75 minutes, the treatment uses natural wood (beech tree) to energise muscles and, together with the Hammam Experience, has become the spa’s signature treatment.

This year, Tedino has also introduced a range of new spa packages including Thai Time Out, for guests who enjoy Thai and Oriental massage; Mums-To-Be, which promises pampering for expectant women; and Jet Lag, to soothe travel-weary guests.

The spa also offers a dedicated treatment package for male guests which has seen a 50% increase in bookings this year, and the introduction of dedicated family times means children aged between five and 16 can now enjoy the facilities twice as week. While the spa attracts an even mix of hotel guests and day spa visitors, its packages are most popular with the latter, who Tedino says enjoy an intimate atmosphere which is maintained through a policy of limited admission and continual staff training to ensure the comfort and wellbeing of every spa guest.

Global challenges As a premium hotel and spa, the Gstaad Palace attracts guests from all over the world and it has not
